Whimbrel at low tide
Here's a whimbrel photographed at low tide in Cupsogue County Park. This is the first time when I had chance to see a whimbrel. These birds visit Long Island during fall migration and feed at mudflats but there are usually single individuals so you must be lucky to meet one. I was astonished by its size and a long curved bill. Amazing creature and great fun to watch! Wish I could meet them more often!
