Pintails are common winter visitors on Long Island although they're usually very reserved and hard to approach. This guy , however, when visiting Massapequa Preserve became very social probably because of his mallard girlfriend. Actually it stayed so close that it was hard to get a decent perspective and photograph it. Additionally the sky on that day was pretty cloudy so the colors were quite dull and pintails' brown plumage did not contrast with the grey water. Nevertheless, I decided to proceed and took some photos. It's not every day when you can get so close to pintail on Long Island!
